Dr. Kazi Ashraful Islam, MD working in the Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder & Autism as an Assistant Professor since 2015, earlier he was a consultant in the department of Paediatrics BSMMU. He started his professional carrier after passing MBBS from Rajshahi Medical College under Rajshahi University in 1995. He got professional training in IPGMR and ICDDRB; got MCPS degree in Paediatrics from BCPS in 2007 and MD in Paediatrics from BSMMU in 2010. He achieved Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Paediatric Neurology & Neuro Development from Bangabandhu Sheik Mujib Medical University in 2022. He got fellowship training on diagnosis and management of autism as KOICA fellow from Seoul Korea. He is also trained in approach & management of neurometabolic disorder IPGMER Chandighar, India. He published a significant number of articles in reputed national and international journal. His most research works are on neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). He actively contributed to develop a manual for disability friendly hospital under NCDC program of DGHS.  He was born in Magura and his early education was in schools & college of native district.

Dr Kanij Fatema has been working as an Associate Professor in IPNA for last 3 years. She is experienced in Child Neurology and Development and has been working in this particular field for 7 years. She is a graduate of Dhaka Medical College with excellent academic results. Dr Kanij has completed her first fellowship in Pediatrics in 2009. Then she also achieved her 2nd fellowship in Pediatric Neurology and Development in 2017. She has been trained in All India Institute of Medical Services (AIIMS), Delhi for 3 months in Pediatric Neurology and EEG.

In her professional life, Dr Kanij at first joined Bangladesh Civil Service and served in different districts in Bangladesh. She joined as an Assistant Professor in BSMMU in 2011. She has taken part in a number of academic research and many of her research got financial grant. She has publications in national and international peer reviewed journals.

Dr Kanij is a dynamic, energetic professional having keen interest to serve the children with neurodevelopmental disorders, She has particular interest in CNS infection, epilepsy, movement disorders and behavioural problems like ASD and ADHD.

Prof. Dr. Gopen Kumar Kundu

Chairman, Paediatric Neurology

Dr. Gopen Kumar Kundu passed MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka in January, 1997 and passed DCH  in July, 2001 from BSMMU. He has completed fellowship in Paediatrics (FCPS) on January 2010. Then he obtained MD (Doctor of Medicine) degree in Paediatric Neurology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). He joined as Assistant Professor in Paediatric Neurology in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in July 2010. He has been working as an Associate Professor in Paediatric Neurology since 2014. Now he has been appointed as Chairman of Paediatric Neurology Department, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University from May’2020.

He is serving as a Deputy Director of Autism Cell in MOH&FW (HSD). He has more than 35 publications in national and international journal & has been actively involved in research, teaching & other academic activities of BSMMU. He has special interest on Childhood epilepsy, Neurometabolic disease, Paediatric Movement Disorders and Neurodevelopmental disorders (Autism Spectrum Disorders , Cerebral Palsy, ADHD etc).

Dr. Kundu published a book titled “OSPE Paediatrics” in 2017 that is the only OSPE book in Bangladesh. After completing the post graduation , he underwent further training in Paediatric Neurology at NIMHANS, Bangalore & PGIEMR, Chandigarh, India and South Korea. He participated in many International Neurology Conferences like Japan, Taiwan, Bhutan, & South Korea etc.

Dr. Shaheen Akhter, MBBS, MD is Professor of Paediatric Neurology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is the Founder-Director of the Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA), the first institute in BSMMU, which employs a multi-disciplinary approach under one roof and works towards ensuring an inclusive environment for children with neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders. She also played the lead role in establishing the MD Paediatric Neurology and Neurodevelopment course in BSMMU. She is actively involved in many national and international organizations and is the author of various research publications in the field of neurology, autism and cerebral palsy.

Professor Shaheen became the Executive Board member for 4 years tenure (2022-26) of International Child Neurology Association (ICNA) through competitive election. She is the first Bangladeshi to hold this position in international arena.
